Context

Two answers to the same problem.

Datasite is a global enterprise platform used on large cross-border transactions, with a long history in the category and deep coverage for very large processes.

Linkro is built for Australian deals: onshore storage and onshore processing, capacity-based AUD pricing, unlimited users, and ISO/IEC 42001 for the AI management side.

Pricing model

The part that decides your invoice.

Legacy platforms in this category price per page, per user, or both. Per-page pricing sounds cheap because the sticker rate is small. It is not cheap, and worse, it is unknowable at signing: nobody knows how many pages a diligence process will produce until it has produced them.

The figures in the example below are illustrative rates drawn from common market pricing in this category. They are not Datasite's quoted rates, and we do not represent them as such. Ask Datasite for its own pricing unit, page rate, user rate and overage terms in writing before you rely on any number here.

Here is what that looks like when a deal runs three months longer than planned, which is ordinary rather than unlucky. Take a room of 20,000 pages priced at 85 cents a page: that is $17,000 before anyone asks a question. Add a 15,000 page supplementary disclosure in month four, and the same rate adds $12,750. Add 12 extra reviewers at $150 per user per month for three months and that is another $5,400. The quote you approved was $17,000. The invoice is $35,150.

Linkro does not work that way. You buy capacity and a term in AUD, users are unlimited, and preparation is free with 10 GB while the room stays private. If you exceed your capacity we move you onto a new contract at standard rates. There is no punitive per-gigabyte or per-page multiple, because a seller under pressure to disclose less is a worse outcome for everyone than a slightly larger contract.

Ask Datasite for the pricing unit, the overage rate and the user charge in writing, then multiply the overage out for three extra months. Do the same to us. The comparison only means something once both quotes are in the same unit.

The ISO 42001 difference

What the standard actually covers.

ISO/IEC 42001 is the management systems standard for artificial intelligence. It sets requirements for how an organisation governs AI: risk assessment before a feature ships, control over the data the AI sees, human oversight of its outputs, and monitoring after release.

It is not a badge for having AI. It is an external audit of whether the AI is managed, which is the question counsel is actually asking when a data room offers to read the documents.

As of September 2026, Linkro is the only virtual data room provider we are aware of that holds ISO/IEC 42001. We hold ISO 27001 as well. Datasite publicly claims ISO 27001; we have found no public statement that it holds ISO/IEC 42001. Based on our review of publicly listed certifications, last checked September 2026. If that has changed, tell us and we will update this page.

Being straight about it

When Datasite is the better choice.

There are deals we should not win. These are them.

Situation 1
You are running a large cross-border process where the buyer list is global and offshore hosting is expected rather than a problem.
Situation 2
You need the full-service transaction support that sits around an enterprise platform, including physical document handling.
Situation 3
Your process requires a provider your international counterparties already have security clearance for.
Frequently asked

Questions, answered.

Should I use Linkro or Datasite?
Use Datasite on a large cross-border process where global hosting and full-service transaction support are expected. Use Linkro for Australian deals where onshore storage and onshore processing, predictable AUD pricing and unlimited users matter more.
Does Datasite host data in Australia?
Datasite operates in multiple global regions. Whether your data and all of its processing would sit in Australia is not fully stated publicly, so ask for the storage region and the sub-processor list with locations.
Is page based pricing more expensive?
It is less predictable, which usually makes it more expensive in practice. Page pricing also changes behaviour: teams disclose less to keep the count down, and that costs more in deal risk than the software ever saved.
What is ISO/IEC 42001 and does it matter here?
ISO/IEC 42001 is the management systems standard for artificial intelligence. It covers how an organisation governs AI risk, data used by AI, human oversight and ongoing monitoring. It matters because a data room that runs AI over your documents is making decisions about that data, and the standard is the only external check on how that is managed.
